SRC's Dean and McKibbin Presenting Continuing Education Seminar in Orange County

April 2010

SRC is providing two Continuing Education seminars on April 22, 2010, in conjunction with “Education Day” sponsored by the Independent Agents and Brokers of Orange County. It will take place at the Tustin Banquet Center. The CE courses will be provided by SRC Principal Kristi Dean, who specializes in insurance law, regularly speaks on insurance issues and is a licensed provider by the Department of Insurance. She will be assisted by our Senior Associate, Robyn McKibbin, who specializes in employment law. This is a good opportunity to get some insight (and continuing education credits) from two of our finest attorneys. The programs offered include the following:

9:30 – 11:30: How to Fairly Compete as an Insurance Professional in a Regrettably Confusing and “Not So Free” Enterprise System (2 hrs, Course No. 191248) by Kristi Dean, Esq. and Robyn McKibbin, Esq. of Stone, Rosenblatt & Cha

This seminar is designed to inform the insurance professional of the statutory and case law regarding fair and unfair competition. This aspect of law affects the hiring of employees from competitors, the protection and preservation of trade secrets and proprietary information (such as renewal lists, underwriting guidelines, marketing strategies), and what constitutes false advertising. It will educate the attendees on what constitutes proprietary information and trade secrets, how to protect such information from disclosure, and what to do if that information gets into the hands of a competitor. We will address topics such as employment contracts, and the types of non-competition and non-solicitation provisions between an insurance brokerage and its employees.

12:30 – 14:30: Playing the Litigation Game: Documentation and the Successful Defense of E&O Claims (2 hrs, Course No. 230450) by Kristi Dean, Esq. and Robyn McKibbin, Esq. of Stone, Rosenblatt & Cha

This seminar is designed to inform the insurance professional about the need for proper documentation of underwriting files, and the impact it may have on the ability to defend against errors and omissions claims. It will educate the attendees on ways to avoid unnecessary E&O claims through proper documentation and effective communication, and will address many real-life case studies where improper documentation resulted in liability assessed against insurance professionals.
